Short on time with water close by

So there we were, Molly having issues with the pool still being closed, and myself dealing with some inner demons due to the fact that I only had about two hours before we had to leave the house………yep, we are at that mid-to-late Spring jitter stage. Luckily it was not long until I had come up with a solution: a folding chair in the sun by the pond for the wife and the 3wt rod for me!! Small bream we’re to the rescue of my near insanity, and I do mean small. Regardless, I needed the excuse to get a line in the water. I did manage to hook into our resident carp last summer and was lucky to shake it loose from the 3wt before I was holding a graphite toothpick. Needless to say we will tangle again this summer when I am holding a little more backbone in my corner. All in all a great day just to be outside and kill a couple of hours. There were even some personal records broken, with smallest bream and smallest fish altogether on the fly rod! A few little tykes were hooked, and when bringing them in, hand-sized bream we’re going after them! Entertaining to say the least.

No way this picture was not making the report - Nemo's freshwater cousin! Way to show up for the shot of the monster D.J. !

The bream we’re more than cooperative, albeit not on the surface just yet. This little pond gets deep fast, and if you face similar situations on ponds in the spring, your favorite nymph or streamer will be the answer. Don’t spend too much time on one area if you are not getting any strikes, try different depths, then move on until you find that first one. After that, other fish are sure to follow and you are well on your way to killing some time, recharging the batteries, and getting yourself back to neutral until poppers are being smashed all over the place. Best of luck out there,
