Get Your Fix

Let’s Face it, sometimes you just need to disconnect and go catch a handful of fish. Maybe it’s the middle of the week and you need to decompress, or maybe some more serious issues have taken a firm grip on your well-being. Or maybe, just maybe, Spring is in the air and all the bugs flying around have put fish on your brain… Whatever the case may be, string up a rod and head out to your favorite local pond, or for some of us, that murky river that no one bats an eye at. You never know, you may be pleasantly surprised at what you find in your hometown or even your own backyard. Granted, you are most likely not going to stumble upon some untouched waters, as bait-dunkers (no offense) will most likely have graced the local fish with their presence, but with a fly rod in your hand and some basic fly patterns, you are the potential Ace in the hole to unlocking a lot of fish. Presenting a natural forage pattern to the seldom or never fly-caught fish can prove to be deadly in these situations and unlock honey-holes that you would never even think held any fish.

Just remember next time you need to escape the rat race, take a little longer look at that river you drive over on the way to work, or better yet, keep a 3-5wt. rod in your car with a handful of wooly buggers and poppers. Sometimes all it takes is a few fish caught to right the ship and get the engines back to neutral. putting things back into perspective and/or bridging the gap between bigger fishing trips! Tight lines and good luck out there……
